General info
Welcome to Gumboots' Projects!
Details of all current projects that are supported by Gumboots can be found here.
The projects are the most important aspect of this initiative. It is also the aspect that provides the most enjoyment and learning for all those involved.
It is through the connection between supporters and projects that Gumboots operates, wanting to bring you closer to the people and faces, the work and the stories of success and sometimes failure.
We hope you will find a project which touches and appeals to you. Should you choose to support a project, we believe you will find a meaningful relationship through the project feedback and success.
The Gumboots Foundation is a new initiative. Our projects team is presently identifying projects and initiatives that reflect the issues and innovative solutions that dynamic individuals and communities are engaged in across the country. As mentioned earlier there are a number of projects supported:

In the midst of the hustle and bustle of Alexandra township, Johannesburg, tucked between some council flats, shacks, and a tiny informal barber shop, one can find Leratong Pre-school. As one leaves the noisy streets and enters the school, its vision of providing a place of love, laughter and learning, in the midst of the social challenges of Alex, is immediately evident. Happy children tumble around and it is hard to comprehend that many of these carefree kids go home to situations of real hardship. This is the environment in which Leratong functions. And it is what makes this refuge for these children all the more important - it allows them to be who they are: little, innocent and playful.

Paballo Ya Batho (caring for the people) is a project that serves the homeless community in the Johannesburg area by providing support through its different projects. The projects include a Wednesday night outreach team that provides basic health care, while offering a meal to 800 homeless and destitute people living in the inner city of Johannesburg. This is tied with a weekly support group, assisting the homeless communities with issues concerning unemployment, housing, medical care, community and personal development. Paballo Ya Batho (Paballo) strives at strengthening the unity of people who are homeless and destitute, and to lobby for their basic human rights.

Situated in the heart of the Kwa-Zulu Natal Midlands, the KZN Community Gardening project aims to ensure nutritious produce for every home in an area where up to 80% of the populations is unemployed and HIV/Aids is rife. Working in cooperation with several local and government organisations, community-selected individuals and teachers will be trained in the deep-trench system of gardening using compost and kraal manure - in other words, organic farming principles. The project will enable school pupils, as well as community men and woman to become self-sufficient from their own vegetable gardens. It will also facilitate the trade and purchase of other essential goods through the sale of surplus produce.
